Aerospace Engineering Purdue Requirements

As an aerospace student, you will take a program that explores the fundamentals of engineering, as well as the technologies and design of flying vehicles. Aircraft and spacecraft design courses integrate many technical areas to ensure mastery of complete flight systems. The Purdue West Lafayette 2017-2018 catalog is considered a source of academic and programmatic requirements for students participating in the Fall 2017, Spring 2018 and Summer 2018 semester programs. Although this catalog has been created using the best information available at that time, all information is subject to change without notice or obligation. The University declines all responsibility for errors that may have occurred during the creation of this catalogue. On the Admission Criteria page, you will find the requirements for first-semester students. The Undergraduate Admissions FAQ page provides answers to many frequently asked questions. If a student is enrolled and enrolled at Purdue West Lafayette, they must meet the general education and graduation requirements specified in the then-current catalog. When students officially declare a major, they must meet the main requirements of the catalog in effect at that time. The second year lays the foundation for fundamental engineering, including statics, dynamics, elementary structures, thermodynamics, and a broad introduction to aircraft and spacecraft design.

Aerospace engineers typically specialize in one of two types of engineering, aeronautical engineering or space engineering: the AAE Master`s program offers a wide range of flexibility in aerospace. After you begin your studies at Purdue, an academic advisor will help you create a curriculum (POS) that best suits your educational needs and career goals. Each POS varies depending on the students` interest, time, and course load. For planning purposes, a sample POS for the Aerospace-focused Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics (MSAA) and Interdisciplinary Master of Science in Engineering (/MS) is available, along with a comprehensive course menu listing courses available in the coming years. Admission to Purdue for an undergraduate degree in engineering is handled by the Admissions Office. First-year students enter the first-year engineering program, through which they complete core courses (usually two semesters). The first-year engineering program offers students time to explore the different majors offered at the College of Engineering. For engineers considering additional training in aerospace engineering, it is useful to consider the career prospects for that specific discipline. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the need for aerospace engineers will increase by about 2 percent by 2028. This should not be interpreted as an irrevocable contract between the student and the university.

While a student can graduate with the requirements of the catalog term under which he or she enters the university, the general guidelines, rules, and procedures in the latest edition of the catalog apply to all students. Students who have met the EFE requirements and are ready to transfer to the vocational school of their choice go through the College of Engineering`s Enrolment Management Policy (T2M: Transition to Major) process. The T2M process takes place three times a year – at the end of the autumn, spring and summer semesters (December, May and August). Purdue`s School of Aeronautics and Astronautics is one of the top aerospace engineering programs in the country and currently ranks 6th in the United States. The News & World Report rankings of Purdue`s Aerospace Graduate Programs and Online Engineering Program are consistently ranked among the top three online master`s programs in engineering programs by U.S. News & World Report (2022). The online Master`s program focused on Aerospace Engineering is specifically designed for working engineers and offers flexible programs with a format that allows you to study wherever you are. Aerospace engineers must hold a bachelor`s degree in aerospace engineering or another field of engineering or science related to aerospace systems.

Some aerospace engineers work on projects related to national defense and therefore require security clearances. U.S. citizenship may be required for certain types and levels of release. Please note that this appointment system only works for students admitted to the AAE. If you are not admitted to the AAE and would like to make an appointment with an AAE consultant, please email aaeugrad@purdue.edu. Consultants are usually available Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Appointments are not required to meet with an advisor, but are highly recommended to ensure an advisor is available. AAE is among the top aerospace engineering programs in the country, ranking 4th in the 2022 U.S. News & World Report ranking of aerospace degree programs. The objective of the undergraduate program in Aerospace Engineering is to prepare students for careers in aerospace engineering and related disciplines. All students must complete a senior team design project that integrates technical disciplines and leads to a preliminary design of an aerospace system. Students can choose aircraft or spacecraft versions of the senior design project. Your specific CODO requirements will follow once you enter Purdue University-West Lafayette. This is officially called the term of your catalog. Please select the academic year in which you started courses at Purdue for your CODO requirements. Aviation is the design, development, analysis, testing and production of aircraft for military or civil markets. Space travel is the design, development, analysis, testing and production of rockets, spacecraft and global space/international systems. In their final year, students pursue an area of specialization in consultation with their academic advisor. This is often chosen from among disciplines: the flexibility of our programs allows you to take a break from your studies if necessary. The majority of students choose to start their studies with one course at a time to ensure they find a successful balance between work, life and school. Aerospace engineers can develop new technologies for use in aviation, defense systems, and spacecraft. They often specialize in areas such as the aerodynamic flow of fluids; Structural design; guidance, navigation and control; instrumentation and communication; robotics; or propulsion and combustion.
